Robert Jacob Gordon (Doesburg 1743 - Cape Town 1795) was a Dutch/Scottish diplomat of the Dutch VOC in South Africa. In addition to his position, he led 7 different scientific and geographical expeditions in the Cape Colony on his own initiative. During his expeditions he made detailed sketches, drawings and watercolors, documenting the landscapes, people, fauna and flora he encountered.
