We are passionate about botanical art - we research it extensively, draw inspiration from it, and have specialized in it over the years.
After research we obtain high-resolution scans of the originals from museums and libraries like the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, the Allard Pierson Museum of the University of Amsterdam (UVA), Wageningen University and Research (WUR) and the Royal Library in the Hague.
From these collections, we carefully select the most intriguing pieces. We zoom in on captivating details and
reframe each artwork
to ensure it is displayed in the most visually striking way.
Often, we adjust the size - enlarging or reducing the artwork compared to the original. Using Adobe Photoshop, we subtly refresh the piece while preserving its authenticity, allowing it to seamlessly fit into modern interiors.
Beyond reviving the artwork, we also aim to bring recognition to often - overlooked artists. That’s why we present each piece within a fine-lined frame, accompanied by the artist’s name - breathing new life into both the work and its creator.
Finally, we carefully decide the best medium for each piece:
> a Fine Art Print on high-quality paper with a thin border, perfect for hanging with a clip or framing.
or
> a high quality Print on Aluminium with a soft sheen - frameless and borderless - allowing multiple artworks to interact and complement one another.
Our Fine Art prints are produced in the Netherlands by Colorspace, using Tintoretto Gesso 350gsm high-quality, durable FSC-certified paper with a soft matte finish.
Colorspace is a state-of-the-art digital printing studio equipped with the latest graphic technologies and the highest-quality digital printers with eco-friendly inks. Unlike traditional offset printing, digital printing is free from alcohol, detergents, and harsh chemicals. This method also allows for smaller print runs, reducing waste and promoting sustainability.
Honoring the artists is an essential part of our tribute to the botanical artists and scientists whose dedication brought these works to life. Their creations, invaluable for the study of plant biodiversity today, offered the public a fresh perspective on nature between the 15th and 18th centuries - sparking wonder and inspiring a deeper appreciation for the natural world.
You can find more information about the artists online under the "Artists" section and as an inlay in the Solander box when you order a set of fine art prints, available free of charge.
From the artist's complete body of work, we carefully curate a selection of artworks that complement each other in color and form.
You can frame the Fine Art prints yourself or if your prefer a more trendy look - you can simply hang them using the beautifully designed clips and black nails included for free in your package.
The exclusive sets are presented in a black Solander Box (or clamshell case) with a magnetic closure, crafted from sturdy hardboard.
The front of the box showcases the set of artworks, while the inside contains detailed information about the artist. Think of it as a book with loose pages - a refined and luxurious gift, perfect for giving or receiving.
After careful editing, each artwork is printed using a special ink that is manually transferred onto a thin yet highly durable 0.7mm aluminum plate through a heat press.
This plate features a unique coating that absorbs the colors. By precisely adjusting the temperature and pressing time, we achieve deep, vibrant hues. The soft satin finish enhances the details, allowing the artwork to truly stand out.
Our aluminium artworks come with a convenient system that makes hanging the set of artworks easy and perfectly straight on your wall. In addition to the mounting system on the artwork itself and the necessary components for your wall, your package includes a template. Simply attach this template to your wall using two pins to mark the exact placement for the U-profile.
The U-profile allows for slight horizontal adjustments, ensuring perfect alignment. This system is much more precise and flexible compared to using a single hook for hanging.
Creating a curated set of artworks on aluminum, such as the cyanotypes by Anna Atkins, requires patience and precision. We meticulously select and arrange each piece, ensuring a harmonious balance of shape and color. A rhythm must emerge: a bold form alongside a delicate one, a darker tone complementing a lighter hue, all while preserving the integrity of the original artwork.
Since these prints are frameless, every detail matters. Together, they form a single cohesive work of art.
