Abraham Mignon

Frankfurt 1640 - Utrecht 1679

Student of Jacob Marrell and Jan Davidsz. de Heem. Mignon produced brilliant small-scale still lifes, which were highly appreciated and imitated for a long time.

His work is kept in the Hermitage in Saint Petersburg and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. The Mauritshuis in The Hague owns two works by Mignon; Flowers in a metal vase & Flowers and fruits. Both bouquets come from the possession of the Oranje-Nassau family and hung in Oraniënstein Castle in Dietz, Germany, in the 18th century. In 1822 the paintings were transferred to the Mauritshuis.
